Privacy Policy
Effective Date: 17 May 2026
Last Updated: 17 May 2026
This policy is written in plain English so you can understand exactly what data we collect, why we collect it, and what you can do about it. If anything is unclear, please get in touch — our contact details are at the end of this document.
1. Who We Are
MonkeyMe is a daily stretching and mobility app for iPhone. It helps desk workers build a consistent movement habit through personalised routines and a gamified virtual monkey companion.
MonkeyMe is operated by Dan Smith, trading as MonkeyMe (Sole Trader).
| Detail | Information |
|---|---|
| Business name | MonkeyMe (Dan Smith, Sole Trader) |
| ABN | 12 610 254 386 |
| support@monkeyme.app | |
| Location | Australia |
We are bound by the Australian Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains how we handle your personal information in compliance with those obligations.
2. What Data We Collect
We only collect data that is necessary for the app to work and to give you a good experience. Here is a complete list of the categories of personal information we collect.
2.1 Profile Information
When you set up MonkeyMe, the app stores the following on your device:
- Your monkey's name (chosen during onboarding)
- Your selected body area hotspots (e.g., lower back, shoulders)
- Your activity level and preferences
MonkeyMe does not require an account, email address, or sign-in. There is no server-side account. All profile data is stored locally on your iPhone.
2.2 Health and Fitness Data
If you choose to connect Apple Health, the app reads the following data from Apple HealthKit:
- Workouts (type, duration, and date)
- Step count
- Active energy burned
Important: Your Apple Health data is processed entirely on your device. It is never sent to any server. We use it only to personalise your stretching routines — for example, if you ran yesterday, your routine will focus more on hip flexors and calves.
MonkeyMe also writes completed stretching sessions to Apple Health as Mindful Minutes, so they appear in your Apple Health summary.
2.3 Usage Data (Analytics)
We use Mixpanel to collect anonymised information about how the app is used. This helps us understand which features work well and where to improve. Analytics data includes:
- Sessions completed (type, duration, movements skipped or swapped)
- Streak length and milestone events
- Points earned
- Onboarding selections (hotspots, difficulty level)
- Feature interactions (screens viewed, buttons tapped)
- Feeling check-in responses after sessions
Analytics data is associated with a randomly generated device identifier, not your name or email. Mixpanel's servers are accessed via their EU endpoint (api-eu.mixpanel.com).
2.4 Device Information
Mixpanel automatically collects basic device information alongside usage events:
- Device model (e.g., iPhone 15)
- iOS version
- App version
This information is collected automatically and does not identify you personally.
2.5 Subscription and Payment Data
All payments and subscriptions are handled entirely by Apple through the App Store via StoreKit 2. We do not collect, process, or store your credit card number, bank details, or any other payment information.
The app receives confirmation from Apple about your subscription status (active, expired, trial period) so it can unlock the correct features. This status is stored locally on your device.
3. How We Use Your Data
We use your data for the following purposes and no others:
| Purpose | What Data We Use |
|---|---|
| Personalising your stretching routines based on your activity history and declared hotspots | Apple Health data (on-device only), hotspot selections, difficulty level, session history |
| Tracking your progress and maintaining streaks, points, and gamification features | Session completions, streak data, points balance (all stored locally) |
| Improving the app experience through anonymised analytics | Anonymised usage events sent to Mixpanel, device information |
| Sending push notifications (only if you opt in) | Notification preferences, streak status, session history (all processed locally) |
| Managing your subscription | Subscription status from Apple (stored locally) |
We do not use your data for targeted advertising. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not sell your data to anyone.
4. How We Store and Protect Your Data
4.1 Where Your Data Is Stored
MonkeyMe is designed as an on-device app. Your profile, session history, streak data, points, and preferences are all stored locally on your iPhone using the app's built-in database. This data is not uploaded to any server.
The only data that leaves your device is anonymised usage analytics sent to Mixpanel (see Section 2.3). Mixpanel processes this data on their EU infrastructure.
Apple Health data stays on your device at all times. It is never uploaded to any server.
4.2 Security Measures
We take reasonable steps to protect your personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access. These steps include:
- All data stored locally benefits from iOS device encryption and the Secure Enclave
- Analytics data is transmitted to Mixpanel over encrypted connections (TLS 1.2 or higher)
- Analytics data uses a randomly generated identifier — no personal identifiers are sent
- No server-side infrastructure to secure (all user data is on-device)
4.3 No Data Sales
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We never have and we never will.
5. Data Retention
| Scenario | What Happens to Your Data |
|---|---|
| Active use | Your data is retained on your device while you continue to use the app. |
| Account deletion | When you delete your data via Settings > Account > Delete Account, all local data is permanently erased immediately. The Mixpanel device identifier is reset, severing the link between your device and historical analytics. |
| Anonymised analytics | Anonymised, aggregated analytics data held by Mixpanel (which cannot be linked back to you after device identifier reset) is retained per Mixpanel's data retention policy. |
| App uninstall | Uninstalling MonkeyMe removes all locally stored data from your device. Anonymised analytics previously sent to Mixpanel are retained per their retention policy. |
6. Third-Party Services
MonkeyMe uses two third-party services. Each receives only the minimum data necessary for its function.
| Service | What It Does and What Data It Receives |
|---|---|
| Apple HealthKit | Reads workout, step, and energy data from your device (with your permission). This data stays on your device and is governed by Apple's privacy policy. MonkeyMe writes completed sessions as Mindful Minutes. |
| Mixpanel | Provides anonymised analytics so we can understand how the app is used and where to improve it. Receives anonymised usage events via their EU endpoint. Does not receive your name, email, or Apple Health data. |
Subscription management is handled by Apple's StoreKit 2 framework, which operates within iOS and is governed by Apple's privacy policy.
We do not share your personal information with any third party for their own marketing or advertising purposes.
7. Your Rights
Under the Australian Privacy Act 1988 and the Australian Privacy Principles, you have the following rights:
7.1 Right to Access
You can request a copy of the personal information we hold about you. Since most data is stored on your device, you already have direct access. For analytics data held by Mixpanel, we will respond to your request within 30 days.
7.2 Right to Correction
You can update your information directly in the app's Settings screen (hotspots, preferences, monkey name).
7.3 Right to Deletion
You can delete all your data at any time:
- In the app: Settings > Account > Delete Account
This immediately erases all local data and resets your Mixpanel device identifier. You can also email us at support@monkeyme.app for any data-related requests.
7.4 How to Make a Request
You can exercise any of these rights by:
- Using the in-app settings (for data changes and deletion)
- Emailing us at support@monkeyme.app
We will verify your identity before processing any request. We will not charge you a fee for accessing your data.
7.5 Complaints
If you believe we have breached the Australian Privacy Principles or are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, you can:
- Contact us first — we will try to resolve your complaint within 30 days.
- If you are not satisfied with our response, you can lodge a complaint with the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC).

8. Apple HealthKit — Specific Disclosures
Apple requires us to be transparent about how we handle HealthKit data. In addition to the commitments made elsewhere in this policy:
- We do not use HealthKit data for advertising or marketing purposes.
- We do not sell HealthKit data to third parties, including data brokers.
- We do not use HealthKit data to build user profiles for purposes unrelated to health or fitness.
- HealthKit data is processed on your device. It is not stored on any server.
- HealthKit data is never sent to Mixpanel or any other third-party service.
- Connecting Apple Health is entirely optional. The app works without it, using your manually selected hotspots and activity preferences instead.
9. Children's Privacy
MonkeyMe is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child under 13, we will take steps to delete that information as quickly as possible. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@monkeyme.app.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this privacy policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, technology, or legal requirements.
When we make changes:
- Material changes: We will notify you via an in-app notification. We will give you at least 14 days' notice before material changes take effect.
- Minor changes: We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy. We encourage you to review this policy periodically.
Your continued use of the app after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
